The source, and the daily application.

The opening chapter of the Suwen, 《上古天真论》, brings together measured eating, regular living and measured effort: 食饮有节,起居有常,不妄作劳。

Chapter 2, 《四气调神大论》, develops care through the seasons: 春夏养阳,秋冬养阴。 The video connects those ideas to a workable sleep window, an unhurried meal, repeatable movement and recovery suited to local conditions.

Begin with an ordinary day.

Hi, I'm Jackie, founder of Notes on the Neijing. When life feels rushed, caring for yourself can begin with the rhythm of an ordinary day.

Nurture life, day by day.

Yang sheng means nurturing life. In the Huangdi Neijing, care brings together how we eat, when we rest, how we move, and how we settle the mind.

Three ideas from the text.

The opening chapter offers three memorable ideas: eat and drink with measure, keep regular daily habits, and avoid reckless exertion. Here is how I suggest applying them today.

Make the rhythm workable.

Protect a regular sleep opportunity. Give meals an unhurried place in your day. Choose movement you can repeat, such as a comfortable walk, and leave time to recover.

Adjust care with the season.

Seasonal care adds another layer. The text speaks of nurturing yang in spring and summer, and yin in autumn and winter. In everyday terms, balance activity with nourishment and recovery, adapting to your local heat, cold, and daylight.

Choose one small change.

You can begin with one small change: a steadier bedtime, a calmer meal, or a manageable walk. Explore our seasonal guides, and find a daily routine that suits you. Welcome to Notes on the Neijing.
